Flowers for a Tea occasion
By Grand Master Fuden-an Sojitsu
Flower: “matsumoto-sen-no” and “takenigusa”
Vase: lacquered wave pattern tray, Enshu's favorite piece
Flower attachment material: “sasakani” type, old copper
In a summer floral arrangement, it is important to evoke cool and refreshing feelings. This tray, a favorite object of Enshu, was lacquered by my father. Enshu certainly didn’t expect it to be used in this way but I experimented with arranging the flowers on the tray which I still remember vividly. I used “sasakani” as a material for attaching flowers and this is an invention on my part which was then added to that of my father.
