Flowers for a Tea occasion
By Grand Master Fuden-an Sojitsu
Flowers: Orchid, lotus.
Vase: Ancient bronze vase with shaped opening tangerine on a trailer made by Doue (Kobori Masakazu’s favorite vase).
I prepared this floral arrangement during a tea ceremony which I chaired in March last year at the Yakuoin temple in Tokyo as part of the commemoration of the reconstruction after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
The lotus represents our desire for the repose of departed souls and the orchid expresses our wishes for the recovery of the affected areas.
I felt much attachment to this flower arrangement and placed it in a vase which has passed down through the generations in my family.
